A review of the Canyon Roadlite 5 Midstep. This is a fitness/hybrid bike that is lightweight, geared for hill climbing, and is fast. It's also affordable, but with quality components, carbon fork, and well designed frame. This is my personal bike that I purchased myself, and you'll be seeing it in action in many videos to come. thejournier.com/first-impressions-of-the-canyon-roadlite-5-wmn/

This is our first time visiting the Sangamon Valley Trail in Springfield, Illinois. Looks ok for the money, to bad size L 57 is sold out!
Have the same carrier bag! 😊
I like it. Beautiful too.
Hoe much money 💰 cost
Great review. Already have a road bike but considering getting a hybrid for more causal rides.
Great review! TY.
Thank you for ur informative basic good review... getting one for my wife's birthday.
Yellow Velo Gang 🤘
Just discovered this video, we were unaware of this trail. We have just started back riding our bikes so we will definitely be trying this out! Thank you so much for sharing!
Great bike, I’ve owned one for years and put thousands of miles on it. No problems.
Just curious as to what would you put "extra" on the top tube where you have the water bottle holes on top besides a water bottle, and frame pump? Im not new to bikes, just thought its a odd place for those bolts to be. The bike looks dope, and should be fun to ride!
@user-nu7on6nc5h It's usually used for a top tube bag. A lot of people use it for their phone.
@@TheJournier appreciate it! Good to know what you don't know sometimes!
Any updates on how its working out?
the frame can even take a bigger volume set of tires. i love how affordable it is.
Just bought my wife one and she loves it. Great vid
We got about 30 retrospec bikes for my shop during covid. My biggest complaints were poor packing (many got damaged in shipping) and the wheels were never trued correctly...good value otherwise
sweet! Was just looking at possibly getting this bike and came across this just uploaded yesterday. Perfect timing! 😄
Thank you kindly for your review, very well done. The bike is now on sale at REI for $958 US. Pretty good price for a pretty good bike I think!
Great review! I noticed you ride with the seat fairly low. How tall are you if you don't mind me asking? What size model did you get? I'm a shorter rider and I love the L-Train's design.
So did you get on and off the bike by using the step-thru or swing your leg over the seat? I've yet to see anyone actually use the step-thru on this bike. Is it easier than the high-step version?
You have a very lovely voice. This felt like an ASMR video. Very informative… i was debating about this bike and just ordered online via sale!
How tall are you?
Clean, simple design-something really missing from a lot of the bikes these days. Enjoy!
Where did you get all the gear? Seat, kickstand and mudguards?
Thanks! I love the OSU shirt! Small world.
Thank you! ❤
What size bike is this?
You have a pleasant voice ….Good review.
I'm a person in Korea, and I want to check something. The 7th SPEED is shifter and the 8th SPEED is twister shifter, but the description and image seem to be different on the website, so can you check it exactly?
As I checked on the website, only the 7th speed is shown, and out of both the V disc and the hydraulic brake, the V disc is shown as a twisted shifter, and the hydraulic brake is shown to have the shifter installed, is this correct?
i have been thinking about getting this bike for over a year. Cant decide. From the midwest, not too hilly, but not the smoothest of roads and sidewalks
Sounds beautiful
Dang Illinois looks like it has some beautiful places wherever this Lady is looks very pleasant very relaxing nice way to unwind watching this individuals Ebike reviews
is the reach to the handlebar too far? i dont want to be leaned over, i want to be upright
I own one and it does require you to lean forward a bit. Nothing like a drop handle bar bike, but you're not upright. However, you can replace the stem and fix that.
My hometown, born and raised. It never truly leaves you. Los Angeles & California for 27 years and counting. Planning on making annual trips back starting next year. Haven't been back for 16 years, and it's my way of staying centered and paying tribute to my late elders who instilled small town principles in me. Hope to go see my Illini play, take in a show or two at The Devon (I am in the music business) and revisit old classmates, hopefully.
Beautiful comment. Thank you for sharing. I’ll be taking a trip to Decatur, Illinois from the Metro Detroit area of Michigan to visit my boyfriend. Videos like this get me excited. I’m looking forward to it! 🙂
@@MrNioMoon Be sure to report back here! I have family back that way and many whom I grew up with still there. Homes are actually affordable there. Check out the West End, with brick streets and street lamps in certain areas. Yes, there are dodgy areas, but I would recommend the West End around Millikin University, and the South Shores area. Southside Country Club is a cool drive through, too. We love our hometowns, with all their warts, because they helped form who we are! #Loyalty
amazing content thanks for sharing your reviews cant wait for the roadlite canyon review!
The seat keeps moving on me no matter how hard I tighten that one bolt. Cheap. Needs better seat post.
You are interesting. In bicycle-speak, the bottle mounts are usually referred to as braze-ons, but, technically, they aren't brazed but welded. They are bosses, albeit drilled and tapped. I suspect that you work in some mechanical or technical field, aside from this. Ahh, Locktight reference, too, good for you. They limit the rear size so it's less apt to lock up from the weight transfer, but then again, it would make the bike more playful to be able to lock the rear wheel. Good review. Thank you. I have a silver one on order.
*PromoSM* 🙃
Awesome review! That was super informative. I am considering buying this bike - so thanks very much.
how is the torque sensor once you get going?
After the initial takeoff, it's smooth and delivers power based upon how much pressure you put on the pedals. As far as how much power it delivers, like going up hills, you'll have to put some work in, too. But that makes it great for exercise.
if a lower quality torque sensor is the only trade off for the price point, then it's worth it@@TheJournier
@@hindsightcapital2021 Yes, I'm happy with it. For the price it's very good. I've taken it on several long rides and enjoyed it. I wouldn't worry too much about the torque sensor, though I would like to see it improved in the future.
do they 'offer' an aluminum frame? i always hate when steel frames start Rusting!! this comes with optional front / back full fenders? Enjoy!! is this a 'small frame'...
The Head Bikes UR FAST is the same type of bike but with aluminum frame. Unless you ride through salty winters, though, modern Chromoly steel doesn't rust like bikes from the 70's.
Looks nice Jones H bar would have been cool
Yeah, it just has short cables, but the trekking bars work great on it.
Just ordered one
I’m thinking about using this bike to commute with. I have a 7 mile one way 14 round trip with 2,000 feet climb I can recharge once I’m at work do you think this bike can do the job . I’d only need it 3 days a week for I work part time. I’m still in decent shape so gettin a workout is the goal but I’m looking forward to getting some assistance I have been using my standard bike. What’s your thoughts on the hill climbs?
Great project. I bought a new one one month ago. Yes the quality is in the frame and most parts. However, I had to finally throw the pedals into the trash, they would not turn, they were clearly defective, I was told by Priority that they would work their way to smoothness. I couldn't turn them with a vise and breaker, priority showed little interest in supporting me. The highest quality doesn't matter when support is that bad. I also have a ticking sound from the Shimano 7 speed hub.
Do the gear adjustment by aligning the two yellow lines beck at the rear hub window, the adjustment handle should be on the shifter where shifting cable enters it. Do one click or quarter turn and shift up and down. The adjustment gear is gear 4 on 8 speed hubs so you should check the adjustment gear for 7 speed hubs first. If it's not gear adjustment it may be the pedals or bottom bracket, but check with another pair of pedals first because it's an easier fix than bottom bracket.
ticking sound is normal on Nexus 3 and 7. Nexus 8 and Alfine 11 also ticks on higher gears.
@@MrQuay03 And is awesome sounding!
I think your handlebar is set wrong and I recommend watching other drop bar bike videos, riding hand positions and set yours accordingly to avoid wrist injury.
I think it looks alright, it's very relaxed setup.
Hi, yeah it was set off a little, just because the reach is a little long for me. Thanks for your comment!
Any update for this bike?
My friend is 5' tall...... will this be comfortable for her?
Sorry for the late reply! I'm 5'1" and it's comfortable for me.
Do not buy one. Mine lasted 100 miles and the pedals started freewheeling (cant even ride it without e power) avadar service is unresponsive. I have emailed and contacted them via their website dozens of times for warranty instructions with zero response) ZERO. BEWARE!!!!
Jupiter is by far the better bike and better customer support in my opinion...Go Jupiterrrr!!
The motors on the Thunder bikes are very jumpy and like to surge a lot. It doesn't seem to have a very good quality torque sensor and motor implementation.
Yes, that's my biggest complaint of the bike. It should be smoother on take off. Probably the only way to to improve it would be a new controller.
